About Us: Learn About the Environmental Regeneration Bloggers
Hello again and welcome to all our readers! You have probably already read our first post on why environmental regeneration is so vital, but if you haven’t, we encourage you to do so, because that way you will know better why we undertook the task of creating this blog.
In this section of the blog, we will tell you more about ourselves and how we choose the topic at hand, which is the environmental regeneration of Greater Manchester. Although you can kind of get that from our article and our welcome post, we believe that nothing beats a personal message addressed to you that clearly explains our motivation.
So, nice to meet you and we hope that you’re not a stranger for long!
The Bloggers
Considering the niche area that we cover in our blog that is Greater Manchester, you can probably guess where we are from. We were born and raised in Manchester and we have pretty much never left it, because we really love our home city. This is also the reason why we made this blog.
Why This Blog is Necessary
As people who have spent their entire lives in Manchester, we know the good, but we also know the bad. Manchester is the second most populous city in the United Kingdom and as such, it’s bound to struggle with problems commonly associated with big metropolitan areas such as pollution, lack of green spaces and overpopulation.
What you might not know is how bad things really are here. Let’s give you a quick history lesson, so you can conceptualise is. The Industrial Revolution rolls out and Manchester becomes a big hub for cotton manufacturing so much so that some people in the Anglosphere used the city’s name to denote a specific type of high-class linen.
Soon after gaining this notoriety, new industries started popping up in Manchester to the point where the city was known as the greatest industrial city in the world. Naturally, this brought on many problems.
The obvious and more direct consequences of this industrial expansion are pollution, pollution of air, water and land, loss of green spaces, toxic elements in the environment and so on. Since the new industries required workers, workers came from all around the country in big flocks, which put additional strain to the city and its environment.
Unfortunately, we still live with the consequences of the Industrial Revolution as does the whole human race. For example, over a hundred people die because of toxic air in Manchester, which is very concerning. The number has been decreasing, but it’s still too high and the air quality could be greatly improved.
However, we made this blog not to point out all the bad things concerning the environment in Greater Manchester; quite the contrary, we made it to show all the positive changes that we have witnessed over the years. Manchester is slowly becoming a leader in environmental regeneration in the UK and we couldn’t be prouder.
